 United States Figure Skating

United States Figure Skating (USFS) is the national governing body for skating on ice in the United States as designated by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Skating Union (ISU). USFS is responsible for selecting the teams that represent the United States at the Olympic Winter Games, the World Championships and other major national and international figure skating events. Founded in 1921, it has established itself as a leader in the world of figure skating. Its athletes have earned numerous Olympic and World titles.

The role of USFS is not only to develop elite athletes for top-level competition, but also to introduce people of all ages to the sport of figure skating.

Skating here at the Koeppel Community Sports Center

The Koeppel Community Sports Center (KCSC), or the Koeppel Center, here at Trinity College in Hartford, is dedicated to these same ideals and principles as the USFS, but is concentrating itself more on the “grassroots” development of our surrounding city and suburban children within our local community.  While the USFS path serves as the official course for possible placement on national teams for competition, we are looking to give our area residents the opportunity to experience the non-traditional sport of skating in a friendly and fun environment.

Opportunities

From our Learn to Skate Program and Public Skating sessions to school outings and physical education programs, the KCSC is looking to get you on the ice. In the past, several local elementary schools took part in scheduling their physical education classes to take part in a Learn to Skate Program that reached nearly 1500 students in our community. We still hold open hours for groups like the Boy’s and Girl’s club to come enjoy our ice during after-school hours. We also are a destination for class field trips, birthday and holiday parties.

In the future, we look to build on these relationships and reach more children and adults. If you have interest, or can help us reach more children, please contact us for any information, pricing, or to set-up a meeting.
